Hi Christos, yes old skirting boards from the recyclers, with this project a few bits of anything old make the illusion that these pieces are old far more realistic. With the revolver the old fireplace and fire set helped along with the old turned finial that was added, the old penny etc all adds to the illusion. (So, how much do you charge for old skirting??)

Hang on till I clear some cob webs here,,,, ok, all modules of the Hide Me Bookcase are done, secret latch and door module are done. The whole thing is actualy on the trailer and was suposed to go in today but plans got changed at the last minute so install is now Monday. So a few pics of the last happenings. Pic 1 is the secret book latch (without book cover yet) Pic 2 is the mech, very basic old brass latch with a soft spring and some fishing trace to conect back to the book.
I have had a few hold ups lately, lots of quotes, popped a spring in the back brakes of the Jeep so had to fix that too etc etc Today I made a large photo frame from old fence palings for a friend. Had to pick up my next job ,alterations to an antique Cedar wardrobe and pack away a lot of timber Mal arranged for me.
Also working on the Figurehead and doing a road test on some rasps. No rest for the wicked Ok, watch for new threads.

You happy with the way the trace runs thru the back? Not concerned it might cut a slot in the backing board with time and use?
Just asking, 'cos it looks "iffy" to me. But you're the bloke on the spot, so...
Apart from that... I'd love to have it in my shed, to hide all my good timber (and odd bottle of Scotch) behind.

Hi Skew
It is plastic coated trace and there is almost no pressure or very very little, just enough to help gravity bring the latch down. If it looks like wearing I can always put an eylet or bush through later.
I'd like one at home too for similar reasons

Had the day in beuwdiful Smogney yesterday and installed the Hidemebookcase. All went prettty well although the uneven concrete floor didn't make it easy. Just some trims to put around all three jobs, the cake counter, the Revolver and the HMB oh and a ladder on the bookcase. Then there are more new projects after that. In the mean time I have some alterations to some furniture and a large Aust Red Cedar desk and book cases to make. And the figurehead and a few other bits and pieces. Photos, one with the door closed (although I noticed later it's not completly closed and latched) and one just open. I will take some more on the next trip when all the furniture etc is back in place and there should be some books in it.
