    Default The Revolver

No its not a gun, its a revolving book case and foe fireplace. Yet another piece to go into the coffee shop at Annandale. It will go between two rooms, its 2.1m high and almost 1.8m wide. One side has a shallow bookcase and the other side has a fire place, mantle piece (probably with a clock etc) I have a couple of bearing blocks and bearings to mount it on so it should just float round with a fingers touch. It has a plywood back/spine, the bookshelf attached to one side is the structure and then the fire place will hang on the other. All sounds good when you say it fast. What can go wrong?? Few little tricky things, the pivot point isn't in the center of the wall (offset to one side) and I'm not sure that the hole through the wall has a lintel and don't realy want to pull the head out of the wall. Could get ugly!
I have sliced up a bunch of Kauri pine from the limpy timber supplier merchant and the ply that I had left over from the window repair job I did a while back. Chop chop, so far so good.
Bit of routing and a few fancy bits to go on to dress it all up

Like the sticker in shot 2. I should get some woodie stickers, all I have in the shed is hot rod parts stickers - a left over from the previous owner.

Another one to watch while I sit and ponder.

Good, I've been waiting for this one.
Still planning on the secret book release latch thingy. You'd need an appropriate piece of moulding or a pilaster (think that is the right word) on the mantle on the other side as the latch.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Hey woodworkers (and others) cakes yes bring on the cakes the more the better, I wouldn't want to loose my manly physeque oh sorry artme fizeek. I do know/no foe is faux but I had only had 4hrs sleep and my small brain swithches back to finetic spell mode. Waldo the sticker came of the paper bag I got my things at the show in. It just peeled off and so I stuck it on the vice. Tony the book latch will be on the next one, this one may have a poker latch in the fire set. Just in case some little rodent is going nuts you have the ability to lock it in a set position. So today I got the second side on and all glued up. Tomorrow I will give it a sand before rolling it over and starting the fire place, mantel etc.
Obvioously nothing fancy about this one, wood glue and a nail gun (and a few screws)

I'm a bit worried about your hammer of the handle is bent, does that have any impedance to the quality of work or increased likelihood of hitting your thumb?

Hey guys, was Revolver on that clip? only track I didn't hear.
Bent handle just allows you to whack things around corners, very handy sometimes

Back on this one now. Bookshelf side is done so now doing the fire place side. Foot plate is on, mantle piece is on, fireplace is roughly mounted and the mirror above the mantle is on. I sat the fireplace in position, cut ply to fit around and just attached the ply with glue blocks and horse sause. Once dry I pinged in a few nails in with the brad nailer and a few screws here and there. The fun will contiinue tomorrow after I have fixed my parents hot water heater. (Thermostat has cacked itself) This was done yesterday, today I had to do some extensions to Fowlcatraz, they have been escaping and getting into my vegie garden.

fowlcatraz.... They do like to get out, I used to let mine out a bit before dark, that way they didn't do much damage and then they went back in all by themselves, just had to remember to close the door which didn't happen sometimes

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
