    Default Rosewood Bed WIP

Had this NSW rosewood for a while now but haven't had a chance to use it. Bed head is part of a rosewood slab, slats are red cedar. Connections will be all joinery without glue or knockdown fixings. At the moment I think most of the connections will be wedged mortise and tenons.

You might have to reset the wedges periodically due to the rocking of the bed
    Nice rosewood.

Unless the occupants of the bed are very quiet sleepers - ie. they wake up in the same attitude as when they went to bed, your joinery will have to be very tight to cope. The racking forces generated by a probable combined load of (say) 150kg are quite considerable. Do you have a proven plan to work to, or will it be self designed?

Thank you both for your concerns, i'll post progress in a few days, but I don't think there should be too much of an issue with racking. It's a king single bed, with the occupant weighing about 50kg.

The bed will be self designed.

Sorry for the lack of progress, I started a new job and things have been busy.

I have the frame cut out and the slats mostly cut.

This is the slab for the headboard. I just received a 70mm Mon Tsunesaburo plane from Stu and cleaned it up from a rough sawn state. Certainly a workout but I found that having the blade set at 45* I could plane in any direction without tearout.

I hope to wrap up construction by the end of the weekend and add pictures before oil.

That is going to be a stunning headboard.

Thanks for the replies. The rosewood was sourced from Greg Ward.

That is a fantastic slab, I can't wait to see it brought to life with the finish on it.

First coat of oil. The colour isn't as red as the image, and the headboard is slightly darker than the structural members.

It will be finished this weekend!!!

Next is a blackwood bed with an upholstered backboard, should be a little faster.

Finished a little while ago but haven't been able to find the charger for the camera.

    Anyway here goes.

It's hard to get any detail with what I've got but you have to trust me that the grain is great!
