    Question Scobie display case

My wife really liked the display case shown on the front of the latest Australian Woodworker mag. The legs have a fairly gentle curve on the two outside faces, and they advise cutting with a bandsaw and finishing with a router, spokeshave or linisher.
My problem is I don't have a bandsaw and I was wondering if anybody who has seen the design thinks the four legs could be shaped some other way, i.e just using a linisher or plane after using a template/table saw to cut the basic shape.

I'm sure there would be other ways to do it.

The way you could do it, would depend on what tools you have at your disposal.

Do you have a jigsaw, or a coping saw ?

My Grandad built a lot of great looking furniture, he didnt seem to have many tools at all. Not by todays standards anyhow.

Yes I've got a jig saw but not sure how it would cope with 50mm thick timber.

Well I dont know what jigsaw you have so I cant comment on it.
My Makita jigsaw with one of the longer blades fitted will cut more than 50mm.

There would be many other ways it could be done, depends how badly you want to do it.
Maybe your best option would be to find someone with a bandsaw, and pay them to do it for you.

Or build the cabinet with straight legs .

Most of the wood to be removed is on the outside faces so ,as you suggest , use the table saw to cut up to the point where the straight section of each leg ends and then finish off with a spokeshave and sanding by hand. The inside edges could be finished by planing /sanding .
    Nice looking cabinet .
I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan
