Thread: Shaker Furniture History

I can't watch anything that guy makes as a video without my eyes crossing, but without watching it, I'll say that I liked what the Shakers did with the hoods on muscle cars.

I think he means function over form surely! Thanks for the video. I fell in love with a Thomas Moser Shaker inspired 7 drawer chest about 10 years ago but when I saw the price was around US$14k I decided to use his plans to make mine, so good of him to make a book of detailed plans for his stuff.

He's trying to get at the Form following the function I'd say and got his words mixed up maybe.
Good on him for producing a video to get people interested in things. Even if he's obviously not 95% up to speed on the subject. I like to watch wondering when he will present his next mistake. We all make mistakes. Just don't go cutting a hand off is what I say.

The explanation of the drawer bottom saw marks at 3.45 .
In a nutshell he's pointing out drawer bottom wear not saw marks that haven't been planed away.
Those lighter sections are the rubbing of the bottom over the front rail when the drawer sides had worn down. Sides wear and rub away until the bottom starts sliding on the horizontal front rails. The wear has gone through the oxidized darker wood and removed the plane marks. Leaving the lighter sections. Someone has obviously repaired and built up the worn sides when the runners were replaced.
