Complex glue ups are always stressful.
Check to make sure you have the process worked out in your head.
Check and make sure you have everything you need.
Lay everything out in order of assembly.
Do one last final dry assemble, just checking!!
Check to ensure there is a cold beer in the fridge.
Steel oneself to the job.
Mix glue, in this case epoxy for the longer open time.
Go like a scalded cat till it's done.
Here is the result.

Work calls, so I have to postpone this build till I am done earning money. Makes a nice change I must say. The building industry has been pretty slow for the last 3 years or so but things look like improving in the near future.
The customer is understanding of my need and will still receive the item well within the original time frame. Items like this where there is a great deal of development work in terms of jigs and process always take longer than you think. I always say it could be 12 months before they see the piece. Most often it is well before that, but I would rather be early than late.
Having said that, the customer has seen the piece in it's current state and is thrilled. So much so that she has ordered bedsides in keeping with the theme. Maybe a couple of tambour doors might be in order. I have more than enough material to do the bedsides but I am also going to design a blanket chest and a dresser to complete the setting. She does not know it yet but she may be inclined to spend a bit more with me than she thought.
I shall be nutting out the design in the next few weeks.
Cheers

A happy customer is a good one, and better still is one that wants more work done

I have returned from Melbourne so I can now proceed with this project. The job in Melbourne was supposed to take 7 weeks, alas it took near on 14 weeks though no fault of our own. Bit of a bugger when you get paid for what you do rather than how long it takes.
However, I have the footboard for the bed glued up and the first coat of finish on. Looks good.
The next job is to get the long rails machined down to the required thickness and scribe them into the head and footboard legs. Another couple of jigs are in order for this so I will post a couple of pics of that probably tomorrow.
Great to be back in the workshop doin' the stuff I love.
Cheers

More work completed today.
Made a drilling jig so that I might accurately drill the holes for the wooden spring mechanism I am using.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374214649.771968.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1374214665.700472.jpg
Seems to work ok!

First coat of finish. I'm using a German oil and wax finish. Without a doubt the best product I have used. Easy to apply, easy to repair ( don't ask how I know, let's just say stuff happens some times), looks great and great coverage.
Another 2 coats will see this done. Then I just need to trim the slats to length, deliver and get paidImageUploadedByTapatalk1374555548.754483.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1374555569.265609.jpgThere ain't no devil, it's just god when he's drunk!!
