I didn't know that. Quite interesting.
but then again making it waterproof would render one of it's bigger selling points useless.

The waterproof variety is still reversable with heat alone, but if the joinery is massive, then the heat may not penetrate sufficiently to release the glue. As you say, 'orses for courses.

I've been thinking of using hide glue too, I don't like the idea of making something which can't ever be repaired.

Here's a good thread from last year.

It's been difficult the past few days, what, with dodging showers etc. Nonetheless, I managed to distress and colour the Mahogany today and brush a coat of shellac on to seal it.

Are you going to distress the upholstery too? (Tea stain? ) Or just leave that to mother nature.

The covers will be washable, so will fade slightly after repeated washes - which is a bonus!

Wouldn't that make it a chaise? Or are us modern people using English wrong again?

I was too hasty and you're quite correct. A chaise longue has a back and one end. A couch has one end and no back.

I think you'll find that's the name of a bar in Kansas and Philidelphia.
