Nice looking cabinet there Derek. Great detailed read on dovetails by all involved, very enlightening.

Many thanks for the kind words. I was certain everyone was tired of this thread.

After I get finished with built-in bookcases this week, and then it is onto a new bench (my 18 year old is worn out .. and too small).

What I am really looking forward to is building this desk and chair, designed and built by David Haig (in NZ). Just stunning ...

    Gad, I hate building bookcases!

    Regards from Perth

that is why canny woodworkers shop at Ikea.
Buy the number of units you need, put 'em together, level the boxes (using scims or a custom plinth), screw the units together (and to the wall) then hide the joints with a face frame

That is one seriously stunning desk. You'll be pretty good at veneering by the time you finish it

Why not design your own ?

    A much more fulfilling experience.

I believe a light top is better than a dark top for visibility. The base will be built from Jarrah I have salvaged from roofs. In all, it should be 6'6" long and 22" wide.

Anyway, it will be a few months before I will get to it. Not sure of a pictorial. They have been done to death, and none are going to beat Groggy's.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year

So fairly solid then... It is unlikely that anything will compete with Groggy's somewhat epic build, however, as arguably the most useful tool in the arsenal, and considering the infinite and personal variations, tweaks and sometimes inspired elements of design, all workbench WIPS are of interest (and sharing is nice)!

Nice work, Derek, I love your attention to detail - even that which will probably never be seen.

Sorry it's a late post but had to say how much I've enjoyed this thread and not just for the end result. Take some wood and tools and then stir in the attitudes and beliefs of woodworkers and it makes great entertainment.
    Thanks Derek,
    Cheers,
