Staircase
I'm going to built a staircase for the renovated house of my dear daughter.
A time consuming project, long time ago (30 years) that I did flat woodworking.
My wood turnings will be turn down till a lower level, so I have to devide my time between this staircase project, and my wood turnings.
Here is the definitive design of the staircase.
Wish me good luck.
Cheers, Ad

Why should I? In the first place, than you have to move over to Holland.
Could be done, not a bad country.
Second, sounds not so good to let me do all the work.

very nice drawing,
i am bit worried that your stairs may be to steep,
your riser height is 200mm as a standard in aust we try to stay around the 180 / 180
your tread is only 220mm which is not deep enough IMO.
good luck with it

I've seen steeper in Holland. The way it was explained to me, is that property taxes are based on the building's footprint, and steep stairs minimize "wasted" space. To maneuver furniture, most houses have a ridge beam extending beyond the roof, for attachment of hoisting means, and a "Dutch" door/window at each floor under the ridge. It could be even steeper with a "winder" (the three-step affair) at the first landing, too. Necessity is the Mother of Invention, and the Dutch are pretty clever at it.
Top effort, Ad.

the riser on my stairs (which date from arround 1895) is 220mm and the tread 200mm, but there's an overhang so the "effective" tread width is about 250mm.
somewhere there's a rule of thumb about the sum of the riser and tread dimensions falling within a fairly tight range -- achieve it and your swtairs work, miss and they're difficult to climbregards from Alberta, Canada

Yes, will be watching with interest Ad. Hope it all goes well for you. House repairs always have a way of snowballing to other things too so beware

The stairs in my house has a riser height of 185mm, with a tread of 185mm, the stair angle is 45 degrees, but it may be 200x200mm, in according with the Dutch norms.
I have to admit in earlier times 180x180 was than the norm.
In these modern times people are taller, than in the earlier times. I'm almost 1,8 meter tall, but a little guy, in compare with younger people. Most younger people, just like my two sons are almost 2 meter tall.

Ray, Dutch is not so difficult, in a certain way many words are almost the same like English.
With the independence of the USA, they had to vote what language, Dutch or English.
The English language won, with a majority of one vote.
Bad luck for me, else it was so easy for me....))

Staircase project - WIP picture
Finished the first part of the staircase.
Wait with working on the second part, untill I recieve the right (clean) dimensions, after they are finished with there isolation sheets work at the outside wall.
Think I'm working too fast......))

Agree with Waldo!
The only staircases I have had anything to do with consisted of steel stringers and tread holders to wich timber treads were bolted. Hardly interesting.
