Default Suitable finish for Outdoor table for customer

Received an interesting small order this evening from an Adelaide client who has asked me to make a small outdoor table base to sit an old slab of marble on for a Christmas present to someone.
Making the base and legs,- that's relatively easy for me to do,- BUT, the customer requested it in standard pine, with a nice clear Semi-Gloss Finish which is reasonably weatherproof, yet will show the grain, while keeping the, " Pine," colour of the timber.
The table will be under the back verandah which catches the afternoon, & evening sun. Occasionally, when the wind is in the right direction, the rain will blow in onto the table as well.
What do you suggest or recommend for the finish ?

Water based poly tends to not warm up the colour as much as solvent based so it might be a better 'close to unfinished colour' finish.

Default Problem solved,- compliments of a third party,-------

You wouldn't believe this in a million years !!! Guy up the street from me had a HUGE clean-up of his shed over the weekend,& I scored the whole lot, ( see my Ads in the Timber, & Tools section ), AND amongst the stuff that got turffed out was, ( of all things ), all the parts I require for the outdoor table base,- already lacquered, complete with Mortices in the legs, & tenons cut into the rails. The only, " Minor problem, " that I have is to shorten two end rails, and cut two new tenons. Everything else is already cut to the correct dimensions !!!!!!
    Like I said,- " You wouldn't believe it !!!!! "

When your customer said 'Standard Pine' did they mean the stuff from the DIY shed or did they mean 'softwood' not Ash, Oak or one of the other wonderful woods you've got down-under.

Some softwoods are pretty good at standing up to the weather or even contact with soil. I'm no expert but I think Douglas Fir is one of them (but stand to be corrected) then again Pitch Pine is used as Piles and the such like in harbours etc.

You should be able to source something that will fit your requirement.
