    The courier has been

I’ll have to check the tiny photo on the eBay ad but, I thought the carriage fit OVER a “4x2” and that it inferred that it was MADE IN AUSTRALIA?
Well, the reality is that it slides along a triangular rail fixed to a timber guide and it is made in China. Not that either of those are game stoppers but I would have been happier with it straddling over and sliding along a “4x2” which would have much greater lateral stability?

I’m not supposed to be “drinking, driving machines nor making important decisions today” but I rationalised (= Mrs Fletty has gone out!) that a Ryobi 18v ‘homeowners’ chainsaw isn’t really A MACHINE and so started trialling the chainsaw jig. I got about 50mm into the trial cut....

.... when suddenly there was a HUGE clap of thunder immediately over the shed ...... and I bolted back to the house!
I think I got away with it although I did have time to prove the concept AND confirm that a Ryobi homeowners chainsaw isn’t really a MACHINE?

Based on the mega buck German options, do you want to reverse the whole saw so that the chain is cutting on the top of the bar -- again so the dust is directed downwards, rather than into your face?

The problem is that, to keep the centre of gravity over the jig, the chainsaw has to be mounted this way. I fear that if the weight was on the other side AND the blade was pushing back, it would be very difficult to keep the jig flat on the guide?

Happy New Year everyone. I have been socially overactive for the last month and this, plus 50 degree temperatures in the shed, have kept me away from woodwork. However, I received a phone call this morning to let me know that my electric chainsaw was IN !

I have picked it up, tried a quick rip cut....

    A quick cross cut...

And bolted it into the beam saw jig....

So far, I have only used the chainsaw freehand and it has cut very straight but i hope to be able to use it with the jig in the next few days. I have also dramatically changed the design of the furniture so that I need a only a few lengths at 1500mm long and the rest will only need to be 900. This allows me to cross cut pieces to length that are light enough to lift off the ground for rip cutting. I was looking forward to the proposed barn-raising day but now we can hold it without any interruptions for work?

I suspect (but don't know for certain) that he learnt the trick during a former life as an illusionist cutting curvaceous females into smaller pieces. Now he is just left with the wood .
