Making a table from left over marble
Hi everyone,
My first post in the forum, so g'day. I'm hoping you might offer some advice.
I have a left over piece of marble (about 980 x 490 mm) from kitchen renovations, and I'm hoping to make a table with it.
I was hoping to basically buy an inexpensive timber table (top larger and thicker than the marble), somehow make a cut out in the wood to the depth of the marble and rest the marble in the cavity.
I'm wondering if that sounds reasonable and at all possible. I'm not sure if there are power tools that can easily cut to depth and cut kinda like a milling machine... Or even hand tools?

kayman,
Sounds like you need a router. Check out the routing section of this site.

Does your marble slab have straight edges? Or rounded ones? If straight, it's simple to just route out a cavity with a straight bit, and drop it in. If they're round, you'll probably need to route from the bottom with a dish bit - much more fiddly.
