    Default Thicknesser adjustment

I need some help with adjustment to a thicknesser planer.
I recently purchased a Ledacraft PT107 thicknesser. The problem i have is the timber seems to be jamming on the table, & i have to really push the timber through the machine. The feed rollers are spring tensioned & i was wondering if these are set to tight. Am i allowed to adjust these or are they factory set & not to be touched ?

    Hope you can help

Before you do any adjustments have you used a good quality non silicon wax or similar on the bed of your thicknesser.

It's amazing the difference this makes. A number of woodwork machinery suppliers sell silver glide which works very well. I'm sure that there are other products as well.

is it a thicknesser or planer? the difference is that a true thicknesser has cutter blades top and bottom and a planer has just one set of cutter blades.with my planer the feed rolls are on top along with the cutting blades.on the bottom of the table are two rollers that sit slightly proud of the table.these are on a cam system that uses a hex key to either raise or lower the rollers.have a quick look to see if your's is the same.lower the table to allow a straight edge to be put through the machine to level everything and raise the rollers up a little so you don't have to push the timber, plus make sure there isn't any saw chips impeding the rollers. hope this makes sense ,regards andrew

If the thicky bed doesn't have rollers in general you will have more trouble with timber hanging up, the table has to be very clean and very smooth, free from any sticky resin, even the slightest bit of surface rust and you can have probs, a scour pad is good to remove light surface rust or if rust is bad into it with some 100 to 150 grit paper then clean with thinners/acetone..... until no black is coming off onto the wiping rag, clean clean clean, then rub with a wax, ( I am using just an ordinary candle) then rub vigourously again until the wax is polished back leaving a nice smooth shiny table.

MAny thanks to Kev M & PJT. The candle on the table worked a treat & solved the problem. Amazing what a 50 cent candle can do !
