One Tonner Box
Increasingly, if I post a new thread, I have this dilemma as to which forum to place it. This time I was tempted to put it in the box sub group, because in fact that is what it is.
But I could imagine the derision. "Get out of here!".
So here it is and please feel free to tell me where to put it.
Some while back I decidedI could justify a brand new one tonner. In preparation I made up some tongued and grooved boards out of recycled ironbark, which was to be the floor. However, the fundamental error I made was that I had not obtained authorisation from the treasurer.
We are in the process of renovating an old house, dragging it kicking and screaming into the 21st century and I thought it was obvious that a ute type vehicle would be useful. SHMBO does not like spending money on cars. She reckons it is the biggest consumer of money there is. Well, between you and I, I can see her point not that I would admit to it.
Anyhow to cut a long story short, a second hand 2004 VZ came up and although it has a rectangular tool box on the back already, I decided to make up a box out of the TGV boards to hold things that wouldn't fit inside the vehicle.
As you probably know there is precious little space inside the cab of these vehicles and by the time you have a toothbrush and a copy of playboy it is full. SWMBO's attitude to this is that if I think my magazine is going to displace her wardrobe, I have rocks in my head

Nice, and I think this forum is very appropriate.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Great box. I'd be worried that sum larrikan would steel the ute to get the box.
Should be in the box threads IMHO
Must say I don't much like the colour of the ute But then it's not in my drivewayregards

Nice job on the storage box, looks great
Was wondering how you attached it to the ute? Also have you had issues with moisture underneath it?Live life to the fullest, you have to go big and do everything with your all or why do it at all?

UD
It is currently attached with four 3/8" cup head bolts through the plas ply floor (formwork plywood). I have ordered 6 stainless coach bolts from the "Stainless Store" who sponsor this forum and will replace the bolts when they arrive.
The box sits on strips of insertion rubber about 6mm thick so that hopefully there will be no direct contact with moisture, at least not for long periods of time. The checker plate floor also helps in this regards in allowing moisture to get away.

That is a ringer for the metal box I had made about 8 years ago. It is a great design, the only drawback is those handles - they leak. They are fine if vertical but seep when the recess gets water in it. I have to keep a butter container with a sponge underneath to catch the water!
