Beautiful work you have done.
And your workshops is impeccably clean.
If I kept my worshop that clean I wouldn't get much work done

Hi all.
I'm afraid progress on my buffet has reached glacial levels of late. So not a real lot to report.
I've made a start on the rear panels and cut the grooves in the rear rail components to accommodate these panels.
Today I glued up the end assemblies and couldnt help myself and applied a coat of finish to see how the color came up. Looks pretty good i think. When I get the chance ill test fit the panels to see how the two timbers look together and post a pic for opinions.
Hopefully that wont be another two weeks away.
Steven.

Hi all,
In my last post i said that my project had reached glacial levels. Well..due to a tough couple of weeks my enthusiasm to get out into the shed had reached a bit of a low point. The desire just wasnt there. So today i decided to get out there and have a bit of a play, not much mind.
After giving the end assemblies a couple of coats of wipe-on poly i had a bit of a test fit of the panels and have attached a pic for your perusal and opinions of the two colored timbers. The plan is to use this color panel for the front doors aswell.
I also sized up the panels for the rear of the buffet today aswell. They are just flat and will fit into grooves cut into the rear rails.
I have a couple of busy weekends ahead so hopefully will get another chance to have more of a play soon

Looking very nice.
Question though - how thick are the side panel infills and rear panels? And how did you do them ie bandsaw or thicknesser etc?

I quite like the contrasting timbers now, they look better in the flesh than in pics.
This ones not for the minister anyway so it doesnt matter if she doesnt like it.....thats what i keep telling myself!!!!
The rear panels are 6mm thick. They were re-sawn on the table saw from 25mm thick by 100mm wide pieces to 10mm thick which were cleaned up to 90mm wide. Then they were joined into panels and run through the thicknesser to 6mm thick.
The side panels are 19mm thick. In hindsight 12-15mm thick would have been better and still would have suited my raised panel bit. Bit late now though.
Thanks for your kindwords.

Hi again.
So...had the big glue uptoday. Its always a bit hectic when glueing up a cabinet like this, and as is always the case some things didnt come out as i had hoped. After the clamps were removed some of the components didnt quite sit the way i had wanted them to and it was a bit late for adjustments. Mainly the front middle dividers are a little off.
I started glueing up the rear frame work first which included the panels, then added the end assemblies and finally the front frame pieces. I use baking paper between the clamping blocks and the clamp pads to hopefully avoid any damage, this has worked for me so far.
The next thing to address will be the internal frame work. This will be made from recycled stringy that i have prepared and is ready to cut to size. This is where it sits at the moment.
Till next time.
Steven.

Sorry everyone, but i've only managed to make some of the internal web framing and the bottom shelf and the project has ground to a halt again.
I've been catching up on some other little projects for friends, mostly some picture frames from recycled redgum and will soon start on a tallboy for a nephew.
Hopefully this buffet will get moving again soon.

We are always eager to see what people make so does not matter what you post as long as you post.

Ok...here are a couple of pics of where it's at so far.
As you can see, not much progress. All that i've done is added the internal web frames and the bottom shelf.
As my supply of redgum is low, i will be making the internal components from recyled stringy that i have lying about. This will include shelf supports (maybe an adjustable shelf aswell), and some more parts up top for attatching draw runners and the like.
All this is the next job i'll be attacking next, then i can start on the draws, then the doors and top. Not necessarily in that order.
Thanks for looking.
