Default Workbench build (yes, another workbench thread)

I've started making myself a workbench. Got some timber from forumite SpiritLevel earlier this year, and told him I'd put some pictures up when I'd made some progress. There's a mix of timbers.

So far, I've laminated some timber for the legs, cut some mortices and made the tenons on the corresponding short stretchers. Haven't milled any stock for the long stretchers yet.

I've also managed to laminate the top. It's just on 90mm thick, and very heavy.

Bench will be 900mm tall, about 540 wide, and around 1500 long.

I think I'll put a Veritas quick-release front vice on it.

    cheers,

    ajw

What timbers are you using? Your mortices look delightfully crisp.

The top is Vic Ash, not sure about the other parts. Got it all from a forumite for $200.

I'm a couple of lengths short, so might have to buy a bit of timber if I can't find something suitable in my stockpile.

I keep telling myself that it's only a workbench, but I don't want to use too many different timber types in it. Stupid, I know.

    Cheers,

    ajw

I probably wouldn't say stupid, I find the nicer things are setup in my garage, the more likely I am to be willing to sweat through stinking hot summer days in there. Looking forward to the rest of your build. Are those Ashley Iles chisels by any chance?

Berg chisels. Another purchase from a forumite.

Thanks for the info. I had my eye on several lots of Berg chisels on Ebay in the past, but they are pretty $$$. Especially when it's such a crap shoot with second hand tools.
