Default Year10 student's pallet wood coffee table

I've been supporting a kid who finally got approval to do a table - 2 weeks out from the assessment deadline!
It seems the teacher wanted 3 of them to collaborate on a key hanger, and only gave the go-ahead when he was sure it couldn't be done.
    Anyway, a couple of pics:

Next, a belt sander session to flatten the top, some finish, and there's one happy youngster with a sense of achievement.

Thanks for supporting the young lad. It's a beautiful design and excellent work.
Teachers like that should be kicked off the job, their job is to encourage not discourage their students. I had a similar experience at school.

Great to see you supporting and facilitating workshop access to a student who actually has an interest in something other than a mobile device.

The table design is quite interesting so it would be great to hear a little about its construction, design concepts and how that was achieved i.e. the metal corner brackets on the table apron / rails etc.

    Quite an achievement, well done.

I haven't seen the project paperwork, just offered access to tools and supervision to hopefully get it done in time.
He wanted to reuse & recycle, so the plywood is the only new material.
Legs came from a smashed table on the roadside, and he and his mum collected 3 random pallets.

This morning we learned that belt sanders are noisy, dusty, prone to throwing the workpiece (or themselves) around, and that belts stored for a while last about 2 minutes before the belt joint fails.

We also learned that my grandfather's #5 plane is quiter, faster, better and more fun than the belt sander

We wanted to get a coat of finish on before his Maccas shift, and here's the latest progress pic:
