Advice on 9" model A bearings
Looking for some advice on 9" model A plain bearings, the one near the chuck runs cool while the one near the gears runs warm to hot (not that hot that you can't touch it though), but much warmer than the other one. Have installed new oiler wicks and haven't removed any shims, didn't run warm before.

Thanks Pipeclay, looks like it was a little tight, still runs warm, but not as warm as it was.

I normally undo the locking screw, back the nut off and then screw the nut up finger tight only then re-tighten the locking screw.
If the lathe is running less than 300 rpm you shouldnt really notice any heat or warmth above this there will normally be an increase in temp but to just a warm, not hot.
Normally I top up the oil cups at the start of work.
I fill the top until it comes out,the front ones I fill untill oil is seen coming from the front of the bearings ( I put the oil in under slight pressure for the front oilers ).
For the counter shaft bearings I fill the ports with oil at the start of machining.
For the gearbox I fill with oil until it runs out of the front of the gearbox (tailstock side).
With the other oil ports/points I oil once a week.
