Ball turning adapter.
hey all, well i thought i might share what i done over the last couple of days.
I've wanted to get my ball/curve thing onto my lathe so i can do my shift knob

So first thing was to mock it up and see how i can get it to sit.
pretty damn close, and can shim it for a bit of height if needed.

this is the piece of random metal that i'll be using.

made it nice in the lathe, also yeah i know my tool wasn't perfectly centre :'( don't worry i ground it off nicely

making the other part of the adapter. I got the angle reversed on this one woops and had to make another haha.

fits into place nicely

drill a centre hole so i can plug weld it and aldo drill and tap the outer connecting holes for the bolts

Well, umm the weld even though it was nice didn't hold to the small circle piece, so i will just have to drill and tap it and hold it with another bolt.

Here's the circle piece, i've drilled, tapped and made clearance so the bolt head can be flush with the surface. I had to grind down the bolt head a little bit as i needed a 14mm drill bit and i only had a 13mm.

Here we have it all bolted together

and to the piece i'll be using it on first

and how it turned out
I know there's a little step, but sadly that's where the chuck jaws were holding onto the piece and i had to take 0.1mm off of the rest of the part to smoothe it out from previous mess ups.

Any ways, i hope you guys like this. Perhaps this will give someone else the idea if they get one of these ball turning things off of ebay. Mine's been sitting for a month now until today.
