I drilled 12 holes in the backplate of my 3 jaw chuck using my indexing attachment and cross-slide mounted drill. I made a pin from 10mm W1 with a slightly tapered tip. The brass knob has a M12 thread which forces the pin into the 4mm holes in the chuck. I remove the pin when I want to fit the 4 jaw chuck. I need to remove the whole assembly (two cap screws) on the rare occasion I use the face plate.

My original indexer will still be needed for the 4 jaw chuck, collet chuck and face plate. The advantage of this indexer is that it requires no setup when you just want to make 2, 3, 4 or 6 holes/slots in a workpiece.
