Thread: Chucks

Evenin' All..

Well with a little help from a Mate of mine yet another wee Hercus model ARM conundrum sorted yesterday evening, that being why the 8" 3 jaw chuck that came with it only 'appeared' to run true(ish)....sometimes

It came with 2 sets of jaws, with the inside gripping ones insitu when I got it...so when cleaning up all the bits n bobs including this chuck, I replaced them with the usual outside gripping ones, and any job gripped in em ever since spun less true than a dogs hind leg. It eventuates that the first land / thread on each of the jaws has been broken off and there is some damage on the gripping surfaces...I'd totally missed this...otherwise this chuck now spins nicely now that we tidied up the face plate it's attached to...be a shame to not to use it more routinely.

So question 1 without notice is: What are my chances of getting another set of jaws for this 8" Burnerd chuck, cira 1970 (at a guess)...bearing in mind both sets of jaws and the chuck have the same ID / serial numbers? Or are they repairable?

Question 2 without notice is: I also have a 6" 4 jaw chuck which I cannot use as the hex inserts that enable each of the jaws to move have been so damage I will have trouble getting each of the jaws out (presently bathing em with INOX)...are these damaged hex inserts replaceable?
