    Default Craftsman photos

Mal asked for some photos of a Craftsman. This is my lathe that I bought about 25 years ago. It’s an AU model machine no. 13075, which dates it from around 1970. Originally it had a 3 phase motor that at the time I changed to single phase, hence the non original switch gear. The forward/reverse level got broken when it was moved here seven years back and the quick dodgy lever I made at the time is still there!
Other changes are the splash back and the bracket that holds the lamp and coolant hose.
I didn’t realise how dirty and grubby it was until I looked at the photos, it gets the oily rag treatment after every use, which is often. Feel free to ask any questions and if you want some more details.

    Hi Noel,

Nice photo's and nice lathe. What is the difference between the Craftsman and the 260? Is the Craftsman a Hercus attempt at making their own modern lathe, or one they made that was too expensive to manufacture or expensive for the buyer? They look well made and similar to the 260.

    Ben.

I think they were just a model with an incorporated cabinet. It's basically the same as a standard 9" model, the 260 was later. Others here should have more information.
