Digitising manual lathe.
I' ve been looking at getting a digital display for my Hercus and all the stuff I've seen is around NZ$600 + which is as much as the lathe's worth.
I'm sure I've seen something somewhere about rigging up digital verniers on the slides. Anyone done this ? Worth looking at ?
Otherwise, anyone else got any ideas ?

There are plenty of digital scale (as per digital caliper) type systems about now for quite little money. No experience using them, but they seem to look OK.

Have a look here for some options. I bought a DRO of them for my mill and it is great .Been thinking of one for the 260 but haven't got around to working it all out yet.

There are also the readouts made by 'customising' a cheap digital caliper. I saw a post on it just recently, but can't remember where.

Not on my lathe, but put some digital scales on my DM45 mill

Only snag is that the seller, ozmestore, doesn't seem to have them in stock any more.
On the quill I have a modified digital caliper, which created a fair bit of negative comment at the time but has been very accurate and stable in use.
