    Default Expression of interest

Over the next few weeks I am going to cut some gears that will suit the Hercus lathe and possibly other small lathes with either 18DP/20DP and 14/12PA,just wondering if anyone maybe interested in any.

    Hello ljvs1951,
It might be worth checking with Mick Moyle's in Sydney before you confirm your request to Pipeclay. Last visit there he had a 48T in stock, $20 IIRC.

    Regards.

If anyone wants to cut metric threads here's a couple of very accurate approximations for the 127/100 tooth gear which are easier to make

    63/80 - which gives 1.000125mm for 1mm

So a scew that is 6" long will have an accumulated lead error of just under 1 thou of an inch.

    and

    37/47 - which gives 0.999787 for 1mm

This is about half as accurate as the first one.

I have a 76/60 gear which gives 1.0026mm, far from the best approximation, this gives an accumulated error of about 16 thou of an inch over a 6" long screw

Myford use a 21 tooth gear for metric threads which will give 1.0079 for 1mm and an accumulated error of 48 thou over 6"

Scrap what I said about the Myford approximation. They use a different system, I'm not ontop of how that one works.
