A while back, John 'Shedhappens' posted photos of an ejector he made for his Repco tool and cutter grinder. Inspired by John's work I made a version for the Hercus No.1 T and C. It worked well enough for me to make a simpler ejector for the vertical milling slide's indexing attachment and for the No.O's dividing head. Fortuitously, the indexing head's indexing plate retention nut and the dividing head's spindle take up nut share the same thread.

I made extended nuts for both devices to facilitate the mounting of the ejector.. The dividing head's longer nut necessitated the use of countersunk socket screws as draw bolts to allow the spindle to be rotated vertically. Two stepped collars suit both 1/2 and 3/8 BSW and M12 and M10 screws.

The length of the screw accommodates 2 and 3 Morse arbors and the short 3C collet to 3 Morse nose adaptor. The free to rotate brass end prevents galling. Given Hercus' use of a single fixing to lock and prevent rotation on both the milling slide and the dividing head, the ejector works well to preserve painstaking setups. Not much in the way of preservation when you have to resort to a hammer and a drift for arbor removal !!
