Help in identifying my lathe
Hi All,
I am new to this forum. I picked up a Hercus Lathe this week and have not found any information about it on this forum.
For what I can see on the I.D. plate it is a Model CRM and a Machine No. 155504. According to what I have seen, this makes it a 1975 vintage around the change over to the 260.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any manuals would also help in the set up and features of the lathe.
I will unwrap it tomorrow and take some pictures.
Regards
Paul

Finding a manual for it maybe a problem.
Features of the machine are reasonably basic, main feature would be the Roller bearing headstock.
In regards to setting up the lathe, are you talking about using the lathe or setting the lathe up in a location for use.
Your machine is the base model Hercus with the exception of the Roller Bearings.
There are downloads on this forum for the Hercus text book of turning, you will need to do a search, good information and general refferences.
Southbend lathes are very similar to the Hercus( Hercus was a copy of the Southbend) except for the Roller headstock, any information about Southbend 9" lathes would be useful.
There is the Practical Machinist forum that has a Southbend subsection, good information and refferences.
You could look at Lathes UK for information.

Hi Paul,
welcome to the forum an congrats on the new (old) lathe acquisition. If you PM me your email address I'll send you a copy of the Hercus Spare Parts Manual, the Maintenance Manual, the Textbook of Turning and some brochures.
