Hercus 260 differences
Hello. Just wondering . Was the 260 ever made with an imperial leadscrew, or are they all metric ? And, are the geared headstock models easier to find , or are they rare compared to the belt drive version ? Mike

Mike,
The 260 came in both imperial and metric but the metric is much more numerous. The geared head models 260agm(to right) or 260dgm(to left) are not available in great numbers, I assume because there owners are happy with what they've got, most of the teaching bodies I know of aren't selling those models off as yet.

Ok
Thanks Mal. From what you are saying the model AG would be high on impossible to find with very few being made . I lifted this from the lathe uk site . .............................................................While the January, 1967 Hercus price list had the ordinary AT and ATM models at A$3880, it listed the two Model 260 geared-head lathes at considerably more: Model AG or AGM (metric version) with thread-dial indicator: A$4,450 Model DG or DGM with thread dial indicator: A$ 4,770........................In 1967, If I had 20 cents in my pocket, I thought I was wealthy ! Hi Mike,
I know an owner who bought one of the last new dgm's , he paid $8500 and thought he got a bargain. He told me they were retailing for over $10000 at the time.
The last AGM I saw on ebay went for $5500, I talked to the buyer when he bought some parts from me, who told me his bid had been $8000, he was extremely happy to get it for $5500. So who knows what their market value is. The last I sold (an AGM) went for $4200.

Hmmmm
I think I will give up on the 260G and look around for a Sheraton Conquest instead . But my chances are rather slim I suspect
