You will probably get a host of different answers ranging from engine oil to hydraulic to the manufacturers recommendations if you can get it.
An 32 or 46 grade Hydraulic oil will be fine for all of the lube points, this would be preferred over an engine oil and can be purchased in similar sized containers.

I bought this lathe for a custom motorbike build. Asking bike builders about oil brings up the same cans of worms.
Appreciate the inputs. Will go with your suggestion.
Cheers.

Cheers Mal. I bought something cheap off eBay to see if I could adapt it, looks like I've bought too small as I got 1/8 diameter. Oh well will grab something 3/8" and try again.

Have a look at dimensions for tapping drill sizes for what you have purchased and what you have been told.

Hercus front oiler thread pitch and dimensions?
My incorrect eBay purchase seems to have paid off! Bought these 90 degree 1/8" BSBT to barb fitting. Initially I was worried I had bought the wrong thread but it appears not.
The original bits. I plan to cut off the barb and drill it out to press fit the oil cups into them:
Test fit in the headstock:
The thread may not be perfect but it seems to be going in ok. Worst case it seems like the brass thread would deform before the thread in the headstock. Should get a few extra turns before it's in there tight, which hopefully makes it oil tight and gives it enough space off the headstock.
Total cost $8.82

bspt 1/8
1/8 BSPT( T for taper) is about a 3/8 in actual measurement and the difference in thread will still work (as you have discovered) because of the limited amount of threads bearing in the casting and the taper of the thread. Be careful not to bend the cover when you press in the oil cups.
Excuse my error in my first post which should have listed the stock as 7/16 hex brass, didn't think you would be able to get that size. As it turns out I was able to get some and will set about making some up for the website. I will also list short lengths for those who want to make their own.

Cheers Mal. Couldn't resist getting them in the lathe tonight. Turns out the cups are pretty dead on 6.5mm at the base. So a quick go on the drill press and they went in perfectly
Buggered up one of the holes as it's not 100% centered as there is a slight gap where the cup meets. Will probably grab another brass piece as that will bug me.
All mounted up and ready to test them:
