Looks very nice Bob. Is there any disadvantage to using the round bar as the guide?

Maybe. 1" square bar might have been stronger but i have had no problems with mine being 7/8" round. I already had the wheels that were bearing races at one time and they were plenty hard so i just bought some WH tool steel to match. Plus i didn't have a mill or shaper to cut parts with square grooves at that time. I have both now.
Here is a little vid i just did cutting some #2 MT arbors for a customer...Bob

Seems to work fine to me Bob and recycling some spare parts is always a good way to clean up.
What is your method to set up the taper accurately?

Thanks for Drawings
Thanks for the drawings of the Taper Turning Attachment, received today by mail.
The thing that impressed me most about the design that was not shown in the photos, was the facility to attach to rear toolpost on extended cross slide by means of a seperate dovetailed slide & not having to disconnect the cross feed nut.
A very clever & convenient arrangement.
regards
Bruce

How did you apply the "Jewelling" to the parts of the taper attachment?
I would like to do something similar on some aluminium parts but haven't found a suitable method yet.
I have scanned the drawings and could add them here as a pdf. if that is allowable.Last edited by localele; 10th February 2012 at 01:15 PM. Reason: add

g'day localele, as far as jeweling goes (havn't done it myself, but seen it being done) a piece of timber dowel held in a drill press (or mill) and some valve grinding paste applied to the end of the dowel. i cant remember the quality of the finish as it was quite a while ago that i saw it being done, but could be worth a try.

Tried the dowel method with some cutting polish and was partly successful but not quite good enough.Maybe the valve grinding paste will work.I will give it a try.

Decorative work
Micheal
Suggest you try Scotchbrite stuck or velcro on the end of a dowel.
The Scotchbite comes in various grades, so a little trial & error is required.
I have used this method & it works. A little lubricant also helps.
Water gives a dull finish & oils a brighter finish on Aluminium

Bruce
