Back in the old days Hercus supplied Mobilite lamps as accessories for a number of their machines. I first encountered Mobilite lamps when I was a student at WAIT in the early 80s and saw them in abundance when I used to walk past and peer through the window of the School of Engineering workshop. I always thought they were a nice looking lamp. The photo below shows an example in its original paint finish.

Forty years later I found one complete with a Hercus green overspray and fitted it to the tool and cutter grinder. It was a direct fit, the No.1 was drilled and tapped at the factory to accommodate a Mobilite.

And then I found another out at Fiora Machinery in Cannnington. It was attached to the saddle of a 9" lathe in a pretty rough and ready fashion, a plate screw fixed into a couple of additional tapped holes in the saddle. Unlike the 260, the 9's saddle only allows for the attachment of a taper attachment and a travelling steady.

I thought I would have a go at making something that could be readily detached utilizing the existing taper turning attachment fixing locations. Basically a piece of 50 x 6mm flat bar slotted and key holed.

The relieved section is just cosmetic. Dealing with the transition from sharp to rounded edge.

Masked and airbrushed.

Obviously this could be far simpler, just a plate with four holes, but what I made works well enough. The Mobilite can be removed in a couple of seconds.
