    Default Model 260 Sales Flyer

Attached is a .pdf file of a Hercus 260 sales flyer from 1988 or older (it has no date, but came with my lathe that was originally purchased in 1988). If you look at the top right of page one, you just faintly see some prices the original purchaser did note down with pencil.

I am sure the specifications on the last page will be invaluable to anyone purchasing such a machine, or considering doing so.

    Enjoy, Chris

    Default Model 260 Price List

Attached a .pdf file with a Hercus Model 260 Price List from Stockdale machinery, dated 4th January 1988. There are 4 pages. Albeit now 22 years old, it may still give an idea about parts values in relation to each other.

Personally, I find it confirms my experience, that good quality machine tools keep their value. Say if a good lathe did cost $4,000 20 or 30 years, it will still be worth that much today in todays dollars, if in pristine and well cared after condition. All computers I ever owned were woth nothing after 5 years, regardless how much used or cared for .

    Hello Chris,

Thank you for posting the scanned brochures and, especially, the price list.

The turret attachment was an expensive option at roughly half the cost of the lathe. I recall looking at my dismantled 9" turret and thinking about the time and effort that went into designing, prototyping and finally making the finished item and coming to terms wth the high price of these things.

There is a real pleasure in owning and using machines that, if cared for, will provide future owners with equal pleasure.

    Regards Bob

Default Model 260, Spare Parts Manual

This is the Model 260 Spare Parts Manual. It came with my recently aquired 260. This manual is vintage 1988 or older. The last Model 260 is said to have been sold in 1999, so if someone own a younger manual please post it. Since it is essentially a catalog to order parts, I do not think any copyright issue arises.

I had to pack this manual into two .pdf file to retain a reasonable resolution to see the pictures, whilst not exceeding the site's upload size limit for this type of file.

I also have the Model 260 specific Textbook of Turning, but I will not scan/post that one here because it could be seen as a book and copyright would apply. However, if someone needs to know something specific from it, I may scan a page private.

    Enjoy, Chris

I scanned the original A5 size printrd booklet as A4 pages (two A5 onto one A4). That resultrd in 15 files of pretty cose 1MB each, 15MB in total. Yes resution is about 2 to 3 times better than in the .pdf files I posted. Send me your email address. Chris

Sorry, what happened I was several years a member of the woodworking forum, but never posted anything. And now that I started posting here in metalworking/Hercus, I forgot to update my email address. So your mail could not reach me. I corrcted this now, but still cannot see your private message in this bulletin. Please try again, it should work now. Chris
