Replacing back gear assembly on Hercus 9" lathe.
I am soon to replace the back gear assembly on a Hercus 9" AR model lathe. It appears to be held in place with brass pins. Before knocking them out, I thought it would be prudent to make sure I'm not mistaken. To date I have been unable to source details of this procedure in either the Hercus book, forums or South Bend literature. Any expert knowledge would be greatly appreciated. What the heck, even inexpert knowledge.

Whoops, not brass - just discoloured, bashed around steel. Problem solved.

It looks like I will be doing mine in the near future. Any tips to pass on?

Tips? Punch out the tapered pin on the tailstock end of the backgear assembly. Preferably with a concave faced punch. Make sure you are punching the small end.
