Request for photos
I recently had a request to put up all my photos for my Hercus 9 AR restoration. Sadly I lost the lot when my old computer fell off the perch. Not all files were transferred across Hercus included.
Anorak Bob, if you are listening, I know you filed some away. Any chance you could dig out what you have and re-post them.

Hello Ken,
You posted a number of photos of your AR on PM's South Bend forum. I had a look last night but came up empty handed. They could be buried in some more obscure thread. I know I commented once on the woodie forum about the photos but finding that comment has me stumped.

Photos of my Hercus 9 AR
Thanks Bob,
I can't recall posting pics on the South Bend forum, but that may well be.
I reckon most of the snaps were here on this forum. I recall you re posted some, a long time ago.
Looks like all's lost.

Probably the quickest way to locate photos is Google - https://www.google.com.au/search?q=h...ed=0CAYQ_AUoAQ
Scroll down and, bugger me, there are your missing photos. Save them somewhere safe Ken.
Bob.

Hercus photos
Hi Bob,
You are a genius, I did a search on the Practical Machinist, and found nothing.
Good stuff, I'll see if I can copy the images.

Hard drive
Hi MS,
It was my hard drive that failed necessitating a new computer, at least that's what the computer shop said.
I have a feeling that was BS as I have been able to extract a few files from it.
Do you think you could lift all my photos off it?

It depends on exactly how it failed - if it was a physical issue (ooops, dropped it off the desk, ooops, it's older than the Crimean war and I should have replaced it when it started making funny noises, not six months after) you have a lesser chance of recovery, but if it was just the file system getting it's knickers in a twist and trashing it's file allocation table there's a chance stuff can be pulled off it.
If you are able to plug it into your existing PC (which it sounds like) there's plenty of free file recovery software - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filere...y-programs.htm I've used Recova and Easus in the past. Large discs can take several hours for a full deep scan so don't expect instant results.
The recovery software goes through the entire disk, checking it byte-by-byte, and trying to reconstruct files when it finds internal file header data (so if it reads a file header string such as 'jfif' it thinks "oh, this sounds like the header of a jpg file, I'll see if I can assemble the data after it according to the jpg standard")

Failed hard drive
Hi MS,
Thanks for the info, I'll try downloading some recovery software.
I just had a go trying to explore the drive, without luck. It just kept looking, looking, looking without result.
