Sheraton 4 1/2" revival.
G'Day.
I recently started cleaning up a Sheraton 4 1/2" I picked up a while ago.
The plan was not to do a restoration but to clean it up & make sure there were no hidden nasties.
The good news is the only thing that appears to be worn is the cross slide feed which I've shimmed & is fine now. 1/2 nuts & gears all appear to have very little wear.
The bad news was the saddle is packed with grease/ swarf/ plastic grit/ goo.
I started the disassemble process today.
Questions if I may...
1) Where can I find out what should be greased & what should be oiled in the saddle for reassembly?
2) Can I get replacement oil caps (the little spring loaded ones) for this as some are missing.
3) where can I get replacement felt as mine are packed with greasy goo.
4) What colours did the Sheraton 4 1/2" originally leave the factory in? Mine is currently a horrible green but appears to have been a creamy colour some time in the past. It would be nice to keep it an original colour but something a bit darker than beige would be nice.
Thanks in advance.
I'll try to get some pics up tonight or tomorrow.

A pic of the lathe when I got it home.
And the saddle in bits as of this afternoon.
It's not completely dissasembled but I had to degrease it to work out how to get it apart any further. To give you an idea of how messy it was, I didn't realize it was red inside until after the degrease & I now have 1/2 a schooner worth of grease, swarf & some sort of plastic that used to be in there.
Everthing seems to be in good shape. There's wear but nothing excessive & nothing that needs to be repaired or replaced.... so far.
It seems the only thing that got used was the cross slide & that's like new after a short stint on my brother inlaw's lathe.
If anyone can help with any of the questions in the 1st post I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

I was able to get any of the oilers from "Pertek", bring along a sample to show them.
The paint I used was this:::: White Knight Paints
The colour I used was "Sky Blue". I tried using the spray, but the brush on method was just as good.
I use a slideway oil for everything except the headstock and backgear shaft.
Regards,
Peter

Al,
I have a Sheraton 9A in pieces waiting on re-furbishment of the spindle bearings.
I am in western Sydney if you want to swap notes.
You can get 300 x 300 pieces of felt from a local clothing craft shop (Eg: Spotlight in Penrith).
No real problem cutting to shape, I used double thickness.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Work has been flat out so only had a few minutes to spend on it over the last 2 days.
It looks like someone has replaced the oiler for the worm gear with a grease nipple hence the grease everywhere.
I'll get some progress pics up after the weekend with some luck.

Some progress on the weekend.
After a lot of degreasing, & wire wheeling & managed to get some paint on the saddle. It's not as blue in real life as this photo makes it look.
Managed to get the new mill into the shed too
I'll start cleaning up the bed this week & try to have it painted by the weekend.....

Thanks mate.
I ended up using a mix of 4 parts machine gray to 1 part marine blue.
The pics look blue but it looks more gray i real life.
State of play as of tonight.

I haven't been taking "before" pics but thought I'd show just why I've been doing this.
This is about the average state of components. Some are a bit better, some are worse.
And where I am as of this morning...
