Default Sheraton lathe. Need some pull it apart info...

    Hi all.
I picked up this little beauty a while ago but haven't had time to work on it until now.

The cross feed screw is fairly worn (the gear seems ok but the area around the handle is worn) and there is a lot of slop.
My Brother inlaw has access to a lathe & has offered to square the ends up so I can install a brass spacer & take out the slop but I have no idea how to get it apart.
Any idea how this comes apart?

    Thanks.

    Al

Looks just like on a South Bend / Hercus. The slotted nut needs a modified screwdriver to undo. Get a big blade screwdriver and grind away the centre so as to clear the male thread.

Looking at the End of the Half Moon Nut it looks as if it is peened over.
You may need to file it a bit or touch it on a linisher or similar to be able to remove it easily.
Another allternative to the modified screw driver is to use a pair of circlip pliers,it shouldnt be that tight.

When you remove the handle, there should be a pin. Leave it alone as it clears the bush.
    See photo.

PS I would unscrew old nut by tapping with a pin punch, then remake a new one.

    Thanks all.
I managed to get it apart with minimal fuss & damage.
