I made some soft jaws to avoid tool marks on my workpieces
Good morning all, well i thought i would try to avoid future markings from the chuck on my workpieces, so i made some soft jaws.
Copper
4 jaw chuck
I took one of the jaws out from the chuck and took it with me to the hardware store where i sized up some copper tubing from the plumbing section

Took it home and then marked up and cut some pieces to size

Time to use the POS grinder to try and clean it up a bit.

I then used the angle grinder to split it down one side, but not all the way as you'll see shortly.
Following that, using 2 pairs of pliers i pried the split apart, and then squished ever so slightly on the uncut end to make it slip over the chuck jaw. Note, you may need to use a mallet to persuade it to go on as the pliers aren't perfect. While doing this i suggest using wood or rubber underneath the jaw and use a mallet on the copper.
