    Default 2 more almost finished

these still need a finish... but am not sure yet which way to go. Think the turntable with the stars needs to be darker.... haven't had much practise staining... thinking of recutting in darker timber...
Also wondering if next time I could maybe add useful drawers to the bottom of the other box... but not sure how to keep them from falling out when picking it up to wind it at the bottom......
Any ideas, tips and how to make things better more then welcome - this are just #4 and 5.... so still learning.....
    thanks

They look pretty good the way they are. I would likely just finish them with spray lacquer. I like the 1st. picture, where is the pattern from?

The patterns are from " Holiday Music boxes for the Scroll saw"
The scrolling isn't hard , but I have a bit of trouble with the assembly because we couldn't get the identical movements the pattern calls for, so I have to change things a bit and I'm not the best when it comes to measuring! Frustrating when I have to reassamble, redrill etc... other then that I'm having a lot of fun with these.
All the boxes in the book are interchangable so there are just about limitless variations. Easy to add your own things too. At the moment I'm working on an Aussie design for them.

Now this is scrolling! That's pretty Keju.
If might have a preference I like the first project (on left). What does the scene represent?

    Best Wishes,
    fEZ.

I think you really do need to see the item to know what to do re finishing. But I am like you, know very little about staining, I usually buy my timber by the colour I want the project to be and then just oil it. And maybe a coat or two of poly. What sort of timber is it?

It's mostly pine from Costa's Treeland , he sells ready to scroll , thicknessed pieces. Very easy to use. It is fairly soft tho.
The dark pieces are left over red gum , really really thin.... I got from a club member who makes chessboards.
    The bottom is camphor laurel
I never go buy wood for a project.... I just go through my pile and see what's ready... always hoping to find the right piece I can use without having to do much preparation. Sometimes that's a mistake .... like on the music box... I should have used a darker background.

fEZ - the scene is for x-mas.... holy family on way to Bethlehem.

MIke... that CD is priceless..... you can mix and match to your hearts content and come up with all sorts of one of a kind patterns.
