Is this a bargain????
Last week I was looking at scroll saws on ebay UK.
There were 2 catalogue returns that were being sold by the same vendor about 2 days apart.
The first one sold for £16 ($40 AU) and no one had bid on the other one, so I put in a bid for the opening price. To my surprise there were no other bids and the saw was knocked down to me for the bargain price of £5.99 ($15 AU).
The saw was brand new, still in the box, and retails for £39 ($97 AU).
While it isn't a top of the range model, it works well, although I haven't used one before so I can't compare it with anything else except the fretsaws that we used at school and it is much better than them.
No doubt as I get into scrolling more I will be picking everyones brains for information and tips.

The saw looks like it only accepts the pinned blades so you will have problems doing detailed work if thats what you were planning to use it for. Also the tensioning knob is in an awkward spot.
But you cant argue with the price, so you probably got an ok bargain there, jsut depends what you planned usage is.Brett

I paid more than it's rrp here in Oz for a piece of plastic shyte. While that 'un may not be ideal for "high-end" scrollwork, I'd be more than happy to have it in my shop for scrollwork on cabinetry. Looks like it'd be perfect for the job.
Bargain? You betcha!

I have one of those but it is red and badged "arlec". It looks exactly the same as yours. I was given it by my Inlaws for Xmas one year and it seems to work just fine

I've known a number of people who've used Ferm scrollsaws as an introduction to scrolling. Generally, they find scrolling isn't for them. By the same token, people who use other saws to introduce themselves to scrolling tend to stick with it.
This might be due to the saw or it might have more to do with the individuals concerned. I'd suggest you see how you get on with the saw, but if you find it's not cutting the mustard (sic) try a different model.

Thanks for your replies and the opinions.
Your right about the tensioning knob being awkward to use. There are a couple of fittings that are supposed to be for pinless blades, but as with most of the cheap Chinese tools there is not a lot of instruction in the book on how to use them.
As the only real fretsaw work I have done was as a school boy over 50 years ago I find that this saw cuts quicker, more accurately, cleaner and squarer than I could achieve and it is much easier than using a coping saw.
It was one of those purchases that I wasn't expecting to get but put a bid in and if it was knocked down to me at that price it was a bargain for me.
I'll have to get practicing on cutting letters and numbers so I can make some pressies for the grand kids back home in New Zealand.
