How to use more blade for your money.
I know some of you already use this little tip but I thought that maybe some of the new members may not of heard of it, so I took a couple of photos.
I cut I board, in this case Melamine, to the shape of the scroll saw table and this allows me to raise my work up to use more of the blade that way you get more for your money.
In the first photo you will see my scroll saw table, in the next the shaped Melamine with a whole in the spot to allow the blade to come though and lastly you will see on the under side I have glued some non slip material and glued on 3 little legs to avoid any slipping of my work. I hope this is of help to you.

That is 1 way to do it. I just snip 5mm off the bottom of the blade a couple times to use as much as possible while I'm waiting for my blade order to turn up

Fxst, excuse me I'm a newbie. Doesn't snipping bits off blades throw anything out of whack. I assmumed the up and down movement was something tied together and had to be in Sync. The way I read you post is the top and bottom arm are completely seperate from each other. So if I have a blade which snaps right near the end I can just take the broken bit out and simply reconnect to keep scrolling, is that right? I bought 100 blades from Ebay and using them at the men's shed I broke 3 of them in about 15 minutes. They are pretty think compared to the new Dutchmen I bought. Also how come Steve Good reckons it's rare to break a blade? and I've never seen him break one in his videos. Please don't tell me he edits them out. I'll be very dissapointed.
Should I throw the Ebay ones out or is it me who's breaking them? They are GMC 18 TPI and 15 TPI pinned and unpinned. They cut very well, just not for very long and make a mess of the table if they break at the bottom.
Thanks for the tip about using a different part of the blade with the extra height.
regards Stu
