Blades
Just getting some time on my scrollsaw (or should I say Sue's it was bought for her use). I have blades from Harris's is there anywhere.
I can find a list of what blades are best on what woods?
Is the specific RPM for each style of blade VS wood??

It's my understanding that there is no set rule as to what blade you use for a particular timber and it comes down to personal preference with scroll saw blades. Apparently one scroll saw worker will say this blade is best for that timber and another will say that a different blade is more suitable. They say it comes down to your own particular skill with the scroll saw.
This is only what I have heard and not sure if it is correct but everyone I talk to seems to have a different opinion on which blade is best for what timber.
When I bought my saw, it came with about 500 spare blades so I just pick out a blade that looks right to me for the task in hand. . If I am working on thin timber and not making sharp curves, I use a thicker blade and if I am doing more acute curves, then I choose a thin blade. Not very scientific i know but you know me Ray, trial and error.
I'm sure someone will probably tell you the correct information about choosing the right blade so I will keep an eye on this thread and I might learn something new.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Here's a short article that we wrote a little while ago for our website that explains about blade selection. It doesn't give any hard and fast rules but it should help you get started.

Wheelin if you get to cut thickish redgum (1/2"-1") use spiral blades as there is no real grain for the blade to follow. Other than that the blade choice realy depends on thickness of timber or how intricate it is. I have a range of blades from very fine to the thick blades so all options are covered

Thanks for the link SCR0LL3R
Pete thanks same here when I ordered a stash of blades 2 yrs ago from Harris I even ordered metal ones I was going to use them not LOML.
I have on occasions pulled the machine out and used it during that time just the normal pin blades and spares of the same for rough cutting a few things.
Now I want to utilise it more so what better way than ask stupid questions

Ray it's really a good question...... I agree with everything that's been said..... but spirals.... if you start out with them chances are you love them... on the other hand a lot of people who started with them later hate them....
OH and go on..... use those metal blades.... I have used them on wood..... specially hard woods like red gum!!!!!
If you have specific blade related questions I'd recommend you ask Helen Harris directly, she knows more about them then anyone else and I know she'll be happy to advise you
