Delta Scroll Saws for $250 (new)
Quote from Stu's Shed:
I certainly cannot claim to be any expert on the range of scroll saws out there, but I have an idea that the Delta 16″ variable speed is meant to be a pretty good model, based on the number of queries I have seen about them with people looking for one on these forums.
I’ve spotted a number of these out back at Carbatec (Melbourne), and seeing as it is no longer in their catalogue, asked what the story was with them.
Apparently, they were a batch that had a faulty variable speed unit, so Carbatec have gotten in replacement VS units and have swapped them over. They are now being sold off (as of today(?)) as seconds, (no warranty) for $250. (Again afaik, they were originally $360), so not a bad saving!
Again, from the forums, once the Delta became unavailable, you needed to increase your budget to $500-$600 for a good quality entry level scrollsaw, so being able to grab one for $250 sounds pretty good! (About $550 for a TruPro, and up to $980 odd for an Excalibur - beautiful scrollsaw, but it’d have to be for that amount of green!)
If anyone has any particular feedback on this model, I'd also be very interested, because at that price, I am sorely tempted to grab one myself. (I've been reviewing the Excalibur - amazing machine but miles outside of my budget!)"Clear, Ease Springs"

So is that a good price then? (yes - revealing my ignorance, but we all have to start somewhere!)
BTW, got these specs on it, if that helps anyone:
Variable Speed: 400-1800spm
Depth of Cut: 50mm
Table Tilt: 45 deg."Clear, Ease Springs"

I can't remember how much I paid for my Delta 8 years ago. It was something around $300- $320 when Carba-Tech worked in Richmond. If a second hand Delta is in a very good condition, I would personally buy it for $250 because it is one of the most important machine in my business.

Spot on Boxmaker - they are "Seconds", not "second-hand"
IE - they are brand new, but because they originally had a faulty speed controller (which has been replaced), they can be sold fully functional, but they are not prepared to sell them at their original full price because of this."Clear, Ease Springs"

Just got an email back from Carbatec about the specific model number
It is the DE-40-540.
Assume that is what people were hoping/expecting!"Clear, Ease Springs"

I have just returned back from Carba-Tec and bought that Delta. It is a brand new saw and sealed in the original box. The price was $249 because they do not work with Delta anymore, do not supply parts and do not give any warranty. But they pluged in and tested the saw. My old Delta is 8 year old and it VERY relaible. So, I am very happy to find another Delta. If you are interested, you need to rush because they have just a few boxes left.

Oh bugg.......... brother in law went this morning , was told they're all gone.... grrrrrr
would have been perfect.... as he's going to the same show we are on the 17th... we wouldn't even have had to go to Melbourne to pick it up... somehow I looked at that as a good omen and was sure he'd get one for me...
If anyone hears of one again, please let me know
thanks

Hmm Not sure of your info source Juvy (even given it was a Carbatec employee!!) I was in there earlier today, and there were 6 sitting there waiting for someone to buy.
You might want to get your BIL to make another swift trip!!!!"Clear, Ease Springs"

We called Carbatec right away and wouldn;'t you know it..... closed already..... so Ken will call them in the morning - hopefully will get a competent person on the phone if he buys it right off and maybe have it send?
Keep fingers crossed..... please?

There were still 6 there when I left tonight, and I was out of there 30 minutes after the doors closed, so the 6 remaining are still pretty safe!
Surprised so many are still left."Clear, Ease Springs"

Yeahhhhhhh.. if all goes well I will have my "spare" new Delta next week.
I don't know what went wrong when my brother in law called them and was told they were all gone.... but Ken called them yesterday morning, they still had some and he has one send up! Just a matter of getting it here now. Yeahhhhhhhh
Of course someone had to put a damper on it.... was told that a Delta bought at Carbatec in Melbourne a couple of years ago had a very wavy, uneven table and needed work before it could be used.... still.. it's a good saw and I know the guys here can fix anything on it that needs fixing since so many of our club members have Deltas.
