Delta Scrollsaw
Picked up my Delta 40-540 today. Set it up, practiced for a little while; first time ever scroll sawing. Got invited out to dinner, and now I dont' have time to finish the sample that I was going to show the friends.
I am unimpressed with the hold down - Very fiddlly, and tightening one connection throws out the angles. Any suggestions about this?
Regards
Sandra

hmmmmm........ first thing I did was take the hold down off, have to admit tho when do thick puzzles I wish I had it, but for fretwork it's just in the way and a nuisance.
Don't understand about the angles either.... as long as your table is level and the blade tight I dont' see how the hold down would affect the angle?
One thing... now that you've got it set up.... don't forget to check that it's well greased, most Delta's aren't when they arrive. Wouldn't hurt to wax the table either. While you're at it.... put it on your list to order some spare springs and bolts for the blade holder.... I bend 2 screws and lost 2 springs in 2 years... not bad, but good to have spares handy right away.

I did the greasing of the pins. And polished the table, but I only used a furniture wax - I'm not sure if it is the most suitable.

For in between polishing I use regular spray on furniture polish, for a better one I use beeswax one of the guys at the club gave me... it's very hard to rub in unless you leave your saw in the hot car for a while..... ( then just about burn yourself carrying it back into the house! lol) with the table hot it's a snap to wax it.
Of coruse... I hope I'm not going to make a habit of forgetting to take the saw out after coming from the club!
