    Default Excalibur EX21

    Hello eveyone !
Today I bought Excalibur EX21 Scrollsaw from Jim's shop. I have just arrived from Geelong, so it is still unpacked in my car and I am going to play with it tomorrow morning. If you are interested, please ask your questions. Just a few words. When I was going to treval to Jim's shop, my first intension was to but Trupro. They were both placed close to each other in the shop. Trupro looked like a child toy next to Excalibur. So, I did not hesitate for a long time.

    Thanks

Excalibar sure sounds like it would have much better costumes and sound track.

Please do let everyone know what you think about your saw..... how's the vibration, how's the noise? How much effort for wood over 1 1/2" ? How do you like the tilting head? Is it accurate? Is it harder or easier to do relief cuts with? and and and.....

Juvy if you go to the shepparton wood show with some sample peices then you can have a go.

That way all your questions will be answered.

Then when the Albury scrollsaw weekend is on you will be able to tell all.

Keju, thanks for your question. I spent the whole weekend in my workshop with my old friend Delta and its new brother Excalibar. I put them together on the same trestle table, which I normally used for Delta. In approximately 20-30 minutes I had to clamp the Excalibar to the table because it moved around which is obvious. I feel it has slightly bigger vibration then Delta. But ut is much bigger and heavier. I used the same blade which came with the saw. Mainly I did a fret job in 6mm MDF to prepare some stencils of road safety signs for the next school year. So mainly I did all curved on the Excalibar and I used the Delta (and my bandsaw) to cut straight lines because it had a very strong and thick blade. The Excalibar is my third scroll saw and I was absolutely pleased with the tilting head. It took me a lot of time to do any fret job with Delta but now it takes seconds to reinstall the blade. I even do not need to look under the table to clamp the blade. As far as I know that only this particular saw has a tilting head. I use my both scroll saws for my particular business but for the people who make and sell craft this tilting head is a must. As for your question about sawing 1 ½” wood, I use special Korean mad blade. They can cut much thicker wood on any scroll saw. The level of noise is much low then Delta produces. So, I am very satisfy with this new saw. It is expensive but the pleasure to use the tilting head costs much more then $900. Any other questions ? <o></o>

Keju, do you use a scroll saw for any particular projects ? Do you need it for the living or for your hobby ? I bought the Excalibar for my business and I can deduct 100% of its cost. If you need a scroll saw just for fun, probably Trupro would be more then enough for you. I saw it in Jim’s shop and it also looked quite impressive. But I needed a heavy duty scroll saw that is why I decided to go for the Excalibar.

Thanks again Jim, but I'm afraid Shepparton may as well be on the other side of the world... we've not even gone to see Ken's brother in Melbourne.... don't think we trust the car... getting a bit on in years.... huffing and puffing..... lol I will definately try my best to get to the show in Albury.... I could walk..... na.... lol

Anatoli, I have a Delta and at the moment am happy enough with it.... it took a while to coax it into behaving tho. Thankfully we have several Delta's at the Albury/Wodonga Woodcrafters club and several of the guys are really good in curing what ails Delta saws. The only reason I am even dreaming about another one is that it will be impossible to get parts now that it's not supported anymore. I use it as a hobby, but use it just about every day.

Oh.... I just had a go with the new FD-ultra reverse blades.... only used the #3 so far, it really does make it easier to cut straight.... very easy to stay on the line with it and the cut edge is smooth ( I always have fuzzies tho even with the reverse blades no matter how I install them)

    Thanks for all the info

Only if they are very lucky in the lottery
I tell you.... that's definately one thing I'd do if Ken ever wins. As it is I think the rest of our friends will have to make do with all the second hand Deltas that will be for sale! lol

I'm probably already in trouble with spouses for talking their partners into that saw! Might not be able to show my face in Albury!

Today they started to sell Excalibur at Carba-Tec for the same $949 price. They also have an originlal stand for $99. So you can test it at your closest Carba-Tec. I bought it and it is very useful.

That wood stash in the back is what keeps it on the road.... if I empty that out any passing truck will send it flying.... lol
Seriously tho.. poor Mighy Boy isn't in real good health, I don't even go to Albury with him.... Ken takes me, but the little guy is super handy around town.. jsut got to look at him like a huge shopping cart.
We have an understanding.. as long as I don't push him to go faster then 60 he will behave and not rattle and shake.
