Different model Saws.
I must admit I was beginning to wonder if there might be different models out there. The manual that came with it shows the tension adjuster as a lever at the front of the arm like the Dewalt, but the one on the saw it a round knob at the back of the arm.
The only stuff that has been cut on the table is Pine, Hooped plywood, and MDF. I think it was the plywood that did the damage to the surface. Little black beads of glue or whatever it is.
As for the stand Jim at CWS has told me the same thing about the stand makes a huge difference. So I have one on order. Carbatech Canberra don't have one, so I just have to wait. I'm almost tempted to give up sawing for a month while I wait for the stand.

What for to wait for a month ? Just order from Melbourne Carba Tec and you will probably get it next week or faster. Did Jim tell you anything about your falling arm ? It sholudn't be like that. Does the demonstration saw in his shop also have the same problem ?
By the way Carba Tec imports these saws and you probably found their sticker on the box. Does it make any sence to deliver your saw to your local shop and ask for any advise regarding the falling arm ?
As for the instruction booklet, I also have the out of date booklet of the old model. And they just glued some pages with small changes on the top of the old pictures. As if $1000 price doen't justify to print the new booklet. It looks that they rip us off everywhere in this contry on every step.

What we have found with the vibration is that it is not actually a vibration but a resonance through the table and only at high speed, now this only happens on a couple of machines and it is being looked at now to see where the source of the resonance is.
It does not effect the cutting of the blades or the performance of the machine, if you put your hand on the top arm when it is running flat out you can feel it but when you put your hand on the table there is nothing.
The ironic part is when you attach the machine to the stand it is not there, just seems to be more noticible on the bench mount units.
As for availability of the stands they are not due in till May and no there is none available anywhere.Jim Carroll

I just got an e-mail reply from Bob, our friend who bought the Excalibur...
Here's what he had to say and I'd think he knows what he's talking about because he's the best "fixer" of anything going wrong on a machine I've ever met.
"The vibration is because he had it going too fast, the machines are going too fast even mine.
Adjustments screw on the left side, looking at it on plate opposite the
motor, there is a slotted screw with a locknut very finely adjust very
finally and that will hold it up. I will admit owner's manual is
absolutely useless I found out more on the Web,
www.scrollsaws.com/sawreviews<WBR>/excalibar_tune_up.htm There is a little bit more about the Excalibur - it is
a tuneup for them. Actually I am going to sit back and read some more
very shortly. "

I'm sorry.... failed to check before I posted.... I had the same trouble.
Here's the home page link... it's all about scrolling and turning so it's a very interesting and informative page anyway.
There are several reviews on saws to the left....

Fixing Arm lock
I found out that by tightening one bolt the arm now stays in place when you lift it. There is not definite click or lock, just the arm is slightly stiffer and stays where you leave it.
Sorry don't have a picture handy but it's the first bolt you come too if you follow the arm back to the rear of the saw, nut is on the same side as the engine and of course the head is the other side of saw.
I also checked some of the other nuts and bolts on the saw, and found many of them could use a slight tightening. The result was the saw was much smoother, didn't make them too tight just tighter. Especially the Allen key nuts that are on the head of the arms (blade holders). The saw is still not perfect but there is an improvement.

Yep.... that's what Bob had said.....
straight out of the box the Excalibur needs a bit of tightening up.
Don't think they've made the "perfect" saw yet.... sometimes I wonder why they don't get a bunch of scrollers who have experience with different saws together with the engineers to develope a good one....

Today I visited Carba Tec in Melbourne and spoke with the guys about the stand for this scroll saw. They sold our all their stock and were waiting for the new delivery sometimes in June. They receive everything from Brisbane store and they stated the the stands were in a big demand. The stand has just around 15-20 metal angles with some holes !? And it spoils lifes to so many people

Kind of have to agree with you there... looking at some of the amazing things the guys here come up with... strange nobody came up with a simple stand that works ......... yet..... have a feeling tho .. won't be long.. it's a challenge after all

Can you give your feedback after using this saw for a few months ? Are happy or not ?
Thanks.

Still waiting for stock
No I'm still waiting for Jim to get one in stock. Although I have bolted the saw down and put some rubber under the legs and it seems to have made a difference, but I still want a stand.

Finally got a stand
Finally got a stand, and could not believe the difference. The saw feels a lot more responsive, still vibrates slightly but it's limited to table.
There isn't much to the stand, so the only thing I can think of must be something to do with the weight of it, it just sits there and absorbs any vibration. Yes I had it bolted to a wooden work bench but obviously it wasn't sturdy enough.
RECOMMENDATION: If buying an Excalibur get the stand!
It's almost like working with a different saw now, spent the whole weekend just playing and enjoying it.
BUY THE STAND !!! can't say it enough
