    Default G'day all

G'day all, I thought I would introduce myself, my name is Neil, recently retired and say that I picked up my first scroll saw today. Trying to find one in Adelaide was an event in itself, either there was plain old junk or the top of the range stuff which was out of my range dollars wise. I ended up getting a Tru Pro 18" which I understand is a Taiwanese copy of the you beaut German saw. I have never done any of this stuff before so I guess it is going to be a long learning curve with a few busted blades along the way.
My mate owns a business dealing with bush timer so I will be pestering him for off cuts etc, it should be fun and I am looking forward to my new hobby (adventure), regards Neil

    G'day to ya as well
Just a tip re bush timbers ...make sure you have good blades as some it it (myall, bullock bush etc) is bloody hard. well worth the effort though. Redgum (My prefered timber ) is softer but the dust can irritate as can the others so a good dust extractor would be the go.. search the forum as there are a few good set ups ...Scooter made one I think.

Welcome Neil, I am out on the plains in SA. I'd be interested in your progress with that new saw.

As fxst says, dust extraction is the way to go, as scroll saw dust is finer than other woodworking dust as far as I know. MDF is very dangerous, and I u se an expensive dust mask, as well as hooking up an old vac cleaner to a length of soft clear tubing, which is taped to fit right alongside my blade. A timber dust headache will convince you to do this.

By the way, fxst does some really great work. Look for it in some of his earlier forum ramblings.
