    Default Hegner: single or multi-speed?

For 25 years I have been using a Hegner single-speed scrollsaw, but am now thinking of upgrading to the next Hegner model, as I would like the deeper throat due to the work I'm now doing.

My old one has been brilliant, but I'd like to know does anyone have a preference as to single or multi-speed, and for what reasons?

The thickest I cut on a regular basis would be 16mm and going down to the thinnest, 2mm, all being wood, no plastics or metal.

    Any ideas, please?

    Hi Judy
I have a variable speed hegner.
I admit I don't use the lower speeds that often, but in saying that it is still handy.
I used it to cut thin metal a few times and cutting thin timber.
Just handy to have the option I suppose.
The hegner is a great machine.

I found the multi speed unit the handiest as I can adjust the speed for a variety of reasons and would never go back to single speed machines.
    Love my Hegner

Thanks Steve and Pete! Both very helpful suggestions, so I think it would be better to have the variable speed option than not.

Really appreciate your inputs and I definitely agree with your glowing reports of the Hegner!
