hi tony welcome what type of saw did u buy pin oor pinless blades? now for your spiral blades yes the blade can cut any way but u need to be in control the blade can follow a weak point in the grain and before u know it its done i suggest u play around on differant scrap timbers with spiral and normal blades and get use to it good luck.

Glad to see you're stretching your wings Tony. Maybe it's just me, but I broke a lot of blades when first starting out. Still do when I've been away from it for a while and then need to do some scrolling. My advice is buy several packs of different blade types. It's all about practice.

And when you are ready, throw a couple of project pictures on the forum.

Did the blade that came with the saw have a pin through each end? If so, you are not going to be able to use un-pinned blades until you have managed to fix the specific un-pinned holders to that saw. There are many scrollsaws sitting around in sheds that cannot use un-pinned blades. They are fine for work that isn't too fine, but the finer blades are un-pinned. Once you have established what type of blades you need, look up the Harris people. I can't find the time to do that for you right now, but keep searching through the Scroller's Forum and you will find them and they will take very good care of you.
