Still need to varnish them and add a felt backing to the bottom of the coasters.

Thanks! I stack cut all 6 out of some nice 3mm plywood, then i sprayed the with some polyurethane and let them dry over-night. stuck them to some felt this morning and cut it out neatly.
this is the end result.

A very snazzy idea. Another project I must do one day. Well done.

Nice work Charl.
Wondering though, are you going to trim the felt in the gaps? I can see it being a food trap.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? Love em Charl. Just gorgeous.
There are so many patterns and ideas that you could apply to your coasters. For example, my little tealight patterns from Canada would also lend themselves to such work. They would only have to be enlarged on a photocopier.
These coasters are a lovely little idea, and would make a delightful gift.

Nope, Ill leave that up to my Mum. I like the way it looks with the felt there and if they are only used for drinks i dont think it will be a problem!
And thanks for all the positive feedback! Ive got to make some for my sister tomorrow with a different design on them, but dont worry i will definitely post some pics for you all to see!!

My sister saw them and decided she wanted a set as well with a music theme!!
So i knocked up these prototypes rather quickly and crudely to give her a choice,
