Looking at a second hand Hegner scroll saw - advice?
Hi,
This just popped up for sale near me at $195. It is an older model of Hegner, but seems to be in very good condition. Interested in peoples views on price and quality of this generation of Hegner scroll saws. The new ones are a pretty penny, so juxtaposed against them it seems like a value buy. I have expressed interest in buying it, but haven't put the money down yet.
Thanks for any advice.
Jake

don't know what features this has ,but hegner are probably the best investment you can make and for that price I would not hesitate and I have two scroll saws in hand.Go for it.

Thanks for the confidence, I was pretty much sold on price when I saw it (pun intended), but just wasn't familiar with the older models. Confirming with seller now.

G'Day Jake, I bought a similar model about 4-5 years ago for $400 and thought it was a good deal.
Mine has a quick blade changer and I had to replace the rear tension spring.
Back to your possible purchase; it's the same price as the cheap Chinese stuff BUT old Germany made quality.
Cheers, crowie

That is a no brainer for $200. Even if its not the latest and greatest it will still be a good machine. I had a cheap $100 GMC, the thing vibrated to death. I had a chance to use a Hegner (similar sort of vintage to the one you are looking at) and it was like chalk and cheese. I don't do much scroll sawing (none now the GMC died) but would be happy to have that one.

Hi Bumper,
I’ve got a variable speed Hegner and it’s great. Most replacement parts are available from The Woodwork Book & Tool Co in Sydney Scroll Saw-Hegner
