    Default New Multiwood Bowl

Here is my new bowl made from 19mm Poplar Plywood, 3 mm Padauk and 9.5mm Pine. The bowl was cut on a 29 degree left side down for each ring and then sanded. The bowl was sealed with Tung Oil.

Actually no a lathe was not used. I cut 4 rings with a 29 degree angle left side down on my scroll saw table then glued them together.

If you get the angle right they fit pretty good and you have only a little sanding to smooth between the rings. I have a foam backed sander that I use and that cuts down drastically on the hand sanding. With a bit of practice and a bit of imagination you can make some really wonderful bowls, vases and boxes using this technique.

    Hi,
There is a very good book which deals with these types of bowls
"Wooden Bowls from the Scrollsaw", by Carole Rothman. I first saw it at my local library.

Yes, I have the book and have used the techniques in it to make my bowls. I highly recommend the book to add to your pattern library if you have not done so.
